Newest in lip enhancement using Juvederms’ VOLBELLA

Silky Sexy Lips

Are you tired of those really thin lips or those lips that seem out of proportion?

Genesis Cosmetic Laser Center is excited to announce the addition of VOLBELLA to our Juvederm line of cosmetic fillers. This wonderful addition to our lineup is designed exclusively for lips and the results are amazing. For years we have used the regular Juvederm facial filler for lip enhancement with great success. However, in some cases swelling could be present for a couple of days or longer. Unlike the other Juvederm products designed for the face and under the eyes, this product is thinner and made in such a way that it minimizes any water retention and swelling where injected. The texture is silky smooth, making the injection easier and the results more natural and soft. It can be used in both the upper and lower lip in order to achieve an ideal proportional balance to your lips. Because of the silkiness of the product, overfilling is rare due to how it interacts with the tissue. In addition, with Volbella, it is possible to take care of some of those “pucker lines” often seen in the upper lip. A simple numbing injection is done prior to the lip enhancement so that any discomfort is eliminated or minimized.  I have also used it reduce or eliminate those awful pucker lines in the upper lip and around the mouth with great success.  Patients with those “pencil thin lips” are also a good candidate for the Volbella filler.

Juvederm also makes thicker filler called VOLUMA that is designed especially for the volume loss under the eye. You know that look…. hollow and tired with the bags under the eyes. Voluma addresses that very well and lasts about 2 years in most patients. Other Juvederm products are designed for mid-facial and lower facial enhancement. Best of all, these products are derived from natural sources that closely match your own collagen.

With the advent of several thicknesses of the Juvederm line a “mixing” approach to facial and hand filling can be done to use the appropriate product in the appropriate place.  In addition using Botox to address other wrinkles used simultaneously  with filler can acheive a remarkable transformation in your looks.

Let this year be the time you finally address those thin lips or tired eyes that make you look years older. We can help you at Genesis. Silky sexy lips and a more youthful look are only a call away.

Look and be healthy.

Botox and/or fillers….what’s the difference

Patients often ask me which they should get on their face… Botox or Juvederm filler.  My answer is….both if you need it.  However, they are usually mutually exclusive as Botox is used to reduce forhead, glabella, and crow’s feet wrinkles by muscle paralysis and Juvederm products are used to fill in spaces on the face where there is lost volume. A recent article in Cosmetic Surgery Times discusses that overlaping the Botox with the filler can slow down the absorption of the filler, which usually happens over about a years time period.  They found that decreasing the activity of the muscles in the face does tend to slow the metabolic absorption of the filler.  Unfortunately, fillers should be used with extreme caution in the Glabella region (the area of the forehead  between the eyes) because over usage there can potentially cause some blood vessel occlusion and tissue death.  That area is a great place for the Botox as it softens the muscle that causes those hideous”11’s” that make you  look angry all the time.  By the same token filler looks great to plump the lips but if you use Botox in the lips then your mouth may look weird due to the paralysis of the muscle around the mouth (Obicularis Oris).

Now I can inject Botox and Juvederm at the same visit in their needed places.  Where I think that using both in the same area is good is on that patient with deep crows feet that may only have a partial response to the Botox.  This indicates to me that despite paralyzing the muscle under the crows feet, the skin is loose from sun damage and volume loss.  A carefully placed small amount of Juvederm filler on top of the Botox will help tremendously to smooth and fill the area while the Botox will help slow down the absorption of the Juvederm.   Overlap of Botox and filler in very deep forehead wrinkles has also done well especially if depressed scars are present from previous injury.  Overall, we can make your face look years younger with our Botox and Juvederm filler injections.

Fat transfer or Juvederm, which do I do…Part 1

At Genesis we offer two unique methods to fill in those sagging and hollowed places on the face and hands. Today we will talk about fillers, particularly JUVEDERM products.

For years fillers such as Juvederm, Radiesse, Sculptura, and others have been on the market with millions of patients worldwide using them.  At Genesis we are using the complete line of Juvederm products including the one introduced about 2 years ago called VOLUMA.  I like the Juvy products in that it gives me a wide range of thickness of products depending on where in the face they are used.  For instance we would use the thickest product, Voluma, under the eye and inject it against the orbit bone to build up that caved in area,  making your cheek look fuller and more youthful.  This is a very common area that we see even in younger patients.  If you or your friends think you look tired all the time, and you’re not, it may be due to the volume loss under the eye.  The mid-grade thickness of Juvederm is ideally suited for the folds against the nose and the “marionette” lines below and around the mouth.  The thicker Voluma is not designed for that area and may clump badly if injected there.  The thinnest Juvy is great for lips and also around the mouth and nose area too.  In some people, especially older, I may layer it over the Voluma that I placed under the eye to acheive an even better lift and taper effect.  I can also use it in those “pucker lines” or “smoker lines” that develop in the upper lip.  This is done by thinning the Juvy a little more and injecting each of those troublesome lines individually.  The effect is instantaneous and the compliments are too.

On my next post I will discuss the FAT  TRANSFER to the face and how it differs from the Juvederm both in volume and longevity.

Never too young for BOTOX and Fillers

The question always comes up….When should I start using Botox or Juvederm type filler products to keep my youthful appearance. A recent article in Cosmetic Surgery Times addresses that question.  I have patients in their 20’s who are already showing the forehead wrinkles or the “11’s” (those angry looking lines between your brows) as well as patients well into their 40’s who are just beginning to show changes.  So much of when those skin changes start is determined by genetic factors, lifestyle, sun exposure, hydration, and smoking history.  The answer to the question is…You are never too young to start.  There is no minimum age beginning in young adulthood that is too young or too old.  I really admire the patients who I see with barely notable wrinkling who want to get started early as a preventative treatment to slow the process and keep that more youthful appearance into later life.  By starting early you also avoid the difficult situation where a deeply wrinkled area just doesn’t respond as well as a less wrinkled one.  Most of my patients who start early end up needing fewer Botox injections over time because the muscle tends to stay “softer” resulting in getting treated every 5-7 months instead of the usual every 3-4 months that is typical of Botox.  Likewise, the use of fillers such as Juvederm or Voluma for volume loss in the face when done earlier results a much slower progression toward the aging sunken face.  Click on the link provided for this informative article and I think you will agree.
